A simpler way to use the percentage calculator

Solve three everyday percentage questions: find a percentage of a number, express one value as a percentage of another, or compare a new value with an original positive value. Results retain up to six decimal places. A percentage change from zero has no defined result.

How it works

  1. Select the percentage question you want to answer.
  2. Enter the two values requested by the form.
  3. Calculate and check the formula shown alongside your result.

Frequently asked questions

How is percentage change calculated?

For a positive original value, percentage change is (new − original) ÷ original × 100. A negative result is a decrease.

Why can’t I divide by zero?

A zero denominator has no defined percentage. Enter a nonzero total, or a positive starting value for percentage change.

Can I use decimal values?

Yes. Inputs accept decimals and results show up to six decimal places. As with most browser arithmetic, tiny floating-point rounding differences are possible.
